The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) program was created to ask consumers and patients to evaluate their experiences with the hospice care they received. The data collected will be used to create incentives for improvement and to foster public accountability.

Executive Summary

The CAHPS survey program will be collecting data that will be used in a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services pay-for-reporting program that starts with the 2017 Annual Payment Update (APU). Your CAHPS survey compliance in 2015 will affect your APU in 2017, so knowing the roles and responsibilities of hospice organizations, vendors, and the CMS will help you prepare for what the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization calls your “Year of Compliance.”
